Everyday, citizens of our community find themselves in dire need of help. And when they have no answer, they call us.  Who will answer that call if you won't?

The members of Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad are normal, everyday people just like you. Every day, our members go to work, provide for their families and face the same challenges that anybody faces. Every night, they become firefighters and EMT's, protecting their neighbors, fighting disaster and saving lives.

 Will you answer the call?

We are looking for members to serve in a variety of ways. If you want to help and are interested in us, we are interested in you! Please read about our different membership categories below:

 Active Membership
The department's focus is providing fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services to the community at large. Our Active Members are on the front line providing these services as Firefighters and EMTs. The time commitment is considerable, but so is the satisfaction you'll receive!
 

MINIMUM ACTIVE NVFD MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  1. All members must be 18 years of age and out of high school at time of applications.

  2. All members must serve a minimum of 30 hours per month.

  3. All applicants must be fingerprinted and pass a criminal and DMV background check.  This will be done as part of the application process. Click Here for a list of disqualifying factors.

  4. Applicants must be able to attend classes and their assigned duty crew on nights and weekends, classes are normally held on weekday evenings and weekends.  Classes will usually require 2 specific weekday nights and one weekend day.

  5. Applicants must complete a fit test for the SCBA masks.

  6. Applicants must attend CORE Training Classes within 2 months of being voted in. Exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis. 

Core classes include (Classes are normally held on Saturday and Sunday)

  1. CPR Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (8 hours)

  2. Infection Control (4 hours)

  3. Hazardous Materials Awareness (8hours)

  4. Stress First Aid (1 hour)

  5. EMS Billing and HIPAA Training (4 hours)

  1. Applicants must obtain a physical within 1 month of being voted in; a drug test will be part of that physical.

  1. Applicants must attend EMS Red Hat and Fire Red Hat classes (in house introductory training), within 2 months of being voted in. Exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis.  Physicals must be completed prior to attending Red Hat training.

  1. Applicants must be enrolled in the next available Fire or EMS training course following the completion of Red Hat training.

  1. EMS classes are 140 hours (approximately 4 months to complete).

  2. Fire classes are 350 hours (approximately 6 months to complete).

  1. After completion of Red Hat training, applicants will be assigned to a duty crew.  Crews run every sixth day (i.e.  if your duty crew runs on Wednesday this week, your duty crew will run on Tuesday next week):

Duty Crew Schedules Run:

  1. Monday - Thursday                6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.  (12 hours)

  2. Friday - Saturday                    6:00 p.m. - 09:00 a.m.  (15 hours)

  3. Saturday - Sunday                 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.  (24 hours)

  4. Sunday - Monday                  9:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.  (21 hours)

  5. County Holiday's are treated like weekends (24 hours)

  1. All newly accepted members are on a probationary period of 6 months.  After that time, the membership will vote on acceptance as a full member "provided" they are enrolled in either an EMT-B or Firefighter class.  If not enrolled the probationary period will be extended for another 6 months.  If not enrolled in a course by the end of one year the member will be dismissed.

      

All Members providing 30 hours per month of service are eligible for benefits, including:

  • Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP)
  • Reduced Personal Property Tax Rate for one vehicle

Business Membership
So you want to help us out and be involved but are not interested in serving as an EMT or Firefighter? We are in need of Business Members with experience in, or a desire to help with:

  • Organizational Skills
  • "What Would You Like to Do?" Skills

Whether you are interested in applying for membership or just curious, we invite you to drop by Station 5 or Station 25 for a tour of the building and equipment and for a chance to meet some of our members, weeknights between between 7 PM and 9 PM, or weekends between 10 AM and 9 PM.
