April 6, 2018

At 1636hrs Box 2552 was struck for a outside fire sending Brush 525 and Engine 525 to the 7800 block of Piney Branch Lane.

At 1716hrs crews on scene reported that the fire had jumped the road and ignited the large mulch piles located at the Prince William County Yard Waste Compost Facility. Engine 525 requested additional resources and brush trucks to help battle the blaze. Firefighters and apparatus from Fire Stations 25, 5, 4, 11, 7, and 15 responded to the incident. Fauquier County Fire Station 10 also responded to the incident with an engine and brush unit.

As the sun dropped and darkness fell crews operated in a defensive posture throughout the night. When the sun began to rise on Saturday morning crews began a offensive operation. Bringing in large earth moving equipment to help breakup the large mulch piles.

At 12'noon on Saturday, April 7th crews were being released from the scene.

Throughout the incident and overnight crews were rotated on and off the defensive line that was established. At the peak of this incident 26 units were operating on the scene flowing hundreds of thousands of gallons of water.

The members of Nokesville Vol Fire and Rescue would like to thank all the crews that helped at this significant event.
